Hello Bigger Pockets community from Long Island New York! I‘ve been a computer/management consultant for the past 18 years but have always been intrigued by the Real Estate industry. A recent layoff signaled an opportunity to pursue this interest with a much greater focus. So, as I embark on a new career, leaving the security of what once was, I am eager to learn as much as possible. This thirst for knowledge is what eventually led me to BiggerPockets.

I’ve invested in rental properties prior to the recession which all needed to be liquidated due to the loss of tenants as the economic downturn became a painful reality. Since these properties were purchased with cheap and easily acquired money, I am not familiar with the changes that have reshaped the industry since the recession and for this, I consider myself a newbie to the Real Estate industry.

It’s a bit early for me to specify which niche market to pursue, but my goals are to use a combination of buy-and-sell, buy-and-hold and wholesale approaches to provide a$5-$7k/mo income. The ultimate goal is to have these monies come in as passive income in the next 5 years.

I have to admit that the voluminous amount of information at this site can at times, be quite daunting. I have been reading up on as much as I can and the days go quickly as a result. I wish I could say that I’m devouring the information systematically (as a nod back to my consulting days), but with the lack of any defined path to understanding, I’m just reading it all. Couldn’t hurt right?

I’m looking forward to learning more and meeting like-minded people.

Carlo
