CPA Tax Sentry - Any reviews?

Hello BP,

I am a new real estate investor and I recently opened up my LLC for real estate as I am getting a rental property in the next month and plan on continuing to build my portfolio with the BRRRR strategy.

So, right now I am trying to decide if I should start working with Tax Sentry, Inc., a CPA for my business and personal taxes. Has anyone worked with them before, or have heard of their service before? Just want to know if they are good or if I should keep looking? Also, if you have any recommendations that would be great too!

I also use them and it's been a nightmare. I sent in all my information in April 2022 and it is now end of September and I have not heard back from them at all. DO NOT use them

i am currently using them.  i would tell you to avoid at all costs.  their preparesrs seem to have a problem looking at your actual bookkeeping records.  instead, they expect you to extract and fill out a GENERIC 'organizer'  when you try to list the data that is missing at the bottom of the 'organizer' they dont read it! i have sent back my return for the second time.  also, nearly impossible to ever get a return call for messages left.   I actually signed up with Prime Corp services who then subcontracts to Tax sentry.  if i had known this i could have done better due dilligence and would have never gotten involved with tax sentry.  Prime Corporate services is ghosting me as well because i want what i have paid for and am not getting it and losing major chunks of time reviewing the crap.

Its a disaster there.  Just got a letter from *** for an issue 2017.  Tax Sentry never filed them.  I got a thumbs up confirmation the *** received them.  So now I'm scrambling.  They merged with Incite Tax, could you really expect much better service?  They do not reply to an email quickly, and it was about 3-4 days.  Then they said I'm not in the Sentry system anymore.  I had to send all the emails to the CSR, nothing back.  Buyers remorse I hope.

Dear BP colleagues! I sent Tax Sentry my preliminary 2021 tax information in mid March 2022. Anticipating that there would be questions, I requested that they file an extension to afford plenty of time since I didn’t have depreciation schedules. Started sending monthly emails back in July/August seeking status updates and was always assured that my taxes were in the que and would be processed in the order received. Around September 30th I started receiving questions and was informed that there was a problem since I didn’t have the amortization schedules for my for rental properties from my previous accountant. I can’t be the 1st person on the planet to have this issue… I offered to provide the tax returns since the property purchases in 2017 in an attempt to recreate. After emailing back and forth for days  and reaching No conclusion I was finally able to get in contact with my previous accountant who blessedly answered my pleas for assistance. Honestly, to have my information since March (6+ months) and wait 16 days before the extension deadline to notify me of a problem is inappropriate. I know that I’m not a major client, but maybe, just maybe they are stretched too thin.

He’s trying to tell me since we filed an extension we have more time to file but I know that an extension gives you more time to file, but not more time to pay so anything I owe is collecting interest penalties that I’ll be responsible for as I continue to sit and wait for something from them.

I uploaded my document with them almost 2 months ago ... 14 March to be exact. Haven't seen any draft of my return from them too.

Sent an email to follow up like a month ago. The rep told me like Marshae that they filed for my tax extension so it's ok to wait.

Not very happy with them this year. Also the last 2 year we used them , we need to recheck the draft as there're always mistakes either the deductible number or my company spelling!.  @Marshaé Smith Would you mind sharing how you collect interest on the balance owned at their fault? Have they done your tax yet?

I wish I had a better update guys, but it's been an absolute nightmare of an experience. When I finally got my return back, they had me owing bout $25k...but since I know and watch my numbers, I knew that it wasn't correct and I was even able to look at the return, with my elementary level understanding of their field, and find errors.

So it concerned my greatly that they, as experts, were unable to spot these errors and had I not had the slightest clue, that return would have gotten filed. They took it back and had is audited and redone by someone "whose been doing this for a long time" and when I got it back, the updated amount due was literally a fraction of what they initially stated (my taxes due were literally overstated by like $15k)

But then, someone else reviewed it one more time and again, they caught something else they "missed" which changed my amount due again and it went up by another $4k or so.

At this point, I've called in my old tax preparer and she's doing her own audit so that we can compare the 3 returns TS has given me with what she gets — which is another expense incurred for me. I really wanted to have a good experience with them and I'm so disappointed that I didn't get to enjoy that 5-star experience that so many people raved about in their google reviews.

But this has been...a joke. I am exhausted.

I went ahead an sent in $5k since I do know that I owe something and I'll pay whatever is left one we can actually figure out an accurate number.

@Chris Sayers, they said they if got bill for penalties to send it to them and they'd take care of it. But haven't gotten that far yet.

Yikes - that sounds like a horrible experience.Make sure that you collect any IRS / State notice that you receive with a penalty and forward it to them requesting reimbursement.Best of luck to you !

We submitted all doc mid march. Got the first draft on Aug 19. Once you received it , just checked and rechecked even the company EIN.
