Stocks & Crypto: Technical Analysis

So I have some stocks and mutual funds. I do short-term and long-term trading, but not really day trading. I know someone who is gung ho about technical analysis. According to this person, you can't really lose because you win over 80% of the time and you just limit the amount you're risking per trade so you never lose much and win much more often. Supposedly this person has made a lot of money off of stock trading using technical analysis. But I am skeptical. Especially about the long-term result of such an enterprise. I've won and lost at stocks. So far I've won more often than I've lost, but I've certainly lost and not trivial amounts.

I consider real estate to be much less risky and far more profitable in the long-run. Part of me also sees such things as gambling, while I see Real Estate as genuinely providing a necessary service. Do you think I'm right, or am I prematurely discounting using this method for trading and making money?
