Can anyone recommend a good mileage tracker? I never seem to be able to remember to write my mileage down when I visit properties or other deductible trips. I turned “Find My iPhone” on so I know it knows where I’m at all times.

Ideally, the app would automatically record my position and let me download and annotate periodically. I don't want to rely on myself to enter odometer readings, if I can help it. Thanks.

Imfuna Rent is an app that guides you through a move in/move out inspection with comments and pictures of every aspect of a unit. I have used it for 2 move in inspections and it works great. And its Free!

If there is such an app, I'd love to know about it. I just enter my mileage on the calendar as all-day events, so they stay at the top of the list. Not ideal, but it works... when I remember.

For mileage tracking, we use expensify. It convert right a way the number of miles into dollar amount based on IRS's rate. We like it so far. Just that I have to manually enter the mileage.

Another App I have been using a lot lately is Hey Tell. It adds a walkie talkie like feature to your iPhone, allowing you to quickly send and receive voice messages. This comes in handy when driving or multi-tasking and has been a nice tool for me and my business partner to communicate.

John, have you used siri and to set up reminders like when you get somewhere to remind you something? its actually amazing, no app needed, just a 4s. You can put in location on your phone, for example i have my house listed in there, home depot, and some job sites. You tell siri, when i get to home depot remind me to get ______ and _______, and as long as you have home depot in your phone, with there address as you pull up to home depot and the GPS locates you it reminds you what to get/do. Its pretty amazing. ill pull up to home depot and get 10 reminders, get this get that, lol it is awesome though!

The app "Trip Miles" which is used for tracking mileage is free today (previously 4.99). I don't know if it's a permanent drop or temporary, so grab it while you can.

Yes, I do use Siri to set reminders. Unfortunately there are three different Home Depots I frequent and I'm not sure how to set a reminder that will activate when I get to any one of them. I need to play around with that.

Two apps that I use frequently that I didnt see mentioned are pulse (google reader alternative) and camera+ (much more capable than the stock camera app)

I am always looking for a good/cheap GPS and I may have actually found one. I have been using Waze lately and it seems to do a pretty good job and have a lot of interesting features. The price is right too (free)!

There's a few ways - select it on the map in the reminders app. Or, if you want Siri to do it, add them to your contacts (with address) and give them unique names.

SO you'd have a contact named "Home Depot 1" "Home Depot 2" etc. and tell Siri to remind you at Home Depot 1.

Or a name like "Home Depot on Main Street" may work better.

I put them in with unique names. That works, but it assumes I know which one I'm going to. I'd like to be able to just set reminders for "home depot" then have them pop up when I arrive at any of them.

A bit better integration would be helpful, too. Perhaps another thing I'm just not sure how to do. When I'm setting at my desk or with my iPad (with my ZAGG keyboard) and planning a project, I'll e-mail myself with what I need to get and do. But when I'm working on something, I realize I need something, the siri reminder is quicker. I have to remember to check both. I also sometimes text myself, especially if there's a picture involved. So, three places to check. Still, much easier than a scrap of paper.

Switch them all to one thing? Evernote is an all in one solution.

I like simplicity though, so I'd probably just stick with email. Just as easy to email yourself a photo as text it to yourself. And just as easy to have Siri create an email to yourself as it is to have her create a reminder.

So use your inbox for all 3?

I noticed there was a bit of an argument over passwords. I personally hate having to type or swipe every time I want to look at email or take a picture or use Siri or...the list could go forever.

I also hate the idea of somebody getting ahold of my phone and getting any of my personal data. It's hard to say which is more frustrating, but there's a really REALLY simple solution for both.

If you get the find my iPhone app and set up the iCloud (www.iCloud.com) then you can completely forgo the pain of a password lock and still have all the security.

After downloading this app, you can log into the "cloud" and do various things, my favorite is to have my phone play a sound when I can't find it. It also allows you to send a message to the phone. It also allows you to remotely lock the phone (I'd bet this locks up Siri as well) and even erase the phone completley.

I hope I never have to use the lock or erase features, but I'm really glad I don't have to spend a few seconds unlocking my phone EVERY time I use it.

Bonus: The iHandy level and flashlight apps come in handy every now and then.

I use that too, it works pretty well, and is continually getting better. The only problem I have had with it is it doesn't always know where on/off ramps are and has directed me to the highway at a point where there is no ramp, or has told me to turn the wrong way to get on the highway, but that seems to happen less and less. I think the developers respond very quickly to reported problems.

I also like the speed trap warnings.

I have had similar problems, but I agree, it gets better in a hurry. I am considering buying a large truck so I can just make my own on ramps when waze tells me to enter the highway :D

Two that I use all day are Oanda Forex Trading along with Mailtones email alert as I trade Forex all day long. The Mailtones app is a pager like alert system for important emails which would be my forex service trading alerts.

It's been over a month since anyone posted in this thread...anyone come up with any new apps they like? I have been using Zite to customize news (you setup which topics you want to see and you can thumps up and thumbs down articles...apparently it learns from what you do to present articles to your preference...the Pandora of news if you will).

Have any of you used either of these apps? They seem useful, but it would be great to hear from someone who uses them.

Gasbuddy - Uses your phone's GPS capabilities to help find the cheapest gas prices near your location. Although it may lack listings for some stations, display incorrect prices once in a while, and have a lackluster interface when compared to its competitors. Hey! Its free so you can't go wrong.
