Real Estate School in RALEIGH NC???

Question

I am interested in going to Real Estate school to help me further my career as a wholesaler. I know I do not need to go to RE school however, I feel the more information and knowledge I have the better... plus it gives me many more avenues to work in real estate while I'm getting the hang of wholesaling. With that being said here are my questions....

What are some reputable RE schools/classes in Raleigh?

What's the shortest course length you can take?

What's the average cost for RE school?

How many times did you have to take the test to get your license (I've heard its extremely hard.)???

Are there any quicker courses?

What other options of school does someone have to work in RE???

Hey @Hannah Sargent!Great questions. Although I did not take my pre-licensing classes in Raleigh, I now live and practice real estate here, and have taken many continuing ed. classes in the area. I also took all 90 hours of my mandatory post-licensing classes here in Raleigh.

Overall, the pre-licensing experience will vary greatly depending on your instructor. I had a very positive experience with Art Poling when I took my post-licensing classes at Pan School of Real Estate. Every pre-licensing school is regulated and approved by the NC Real Estate Commission (NCREC). You can find the full list of their approved pre-licensing schools on their website, here, and you can then separately google the reputation of each school. NCREC also publishes helpful info about each school's graduation rate for that year. I happened to pass on my first try, thankfully, but not without hours and hours of studying.NCREC is also pretty strict about how quickly they allow you to finish the course. There are different speeds of courses to accommodate different life stages, but if I remember correctly, there isn't an option any faster than 4-5 weeks from start to finish. I took at 10-week course because I was working full-time. It met twice weekly at a community college from 5:30-9:30 PM, and that was perfect for my work schedule. Unless you have a significant amount of time to study in between classes, I would not recommend taking the fastest course available. There is a huge amount of material to digest, memorize, and internalize in such a short time period. Because the courses are so heavily regulated by NCREC, they should all be pretty similar in tuition costs. Most of them cost around $400-$600 when I took it two years ago. If you do happen to find a "cheaper" option, make sure to note whether or not it includes your textbook, as you will have to buy that, too. It costs around $75-$80, and some classes will include it in the tuition cost.

Because this is such a big decision/investment for your professional career, it's not something where I would recommend taking the quickest and cheapest way out. Find a school/instructor that you feel comfortable learning from, based on his/her reputation, and find a class that works well for your learning speed and life stage. Take your time, do it right the first time, and hopefully you'll only have to do it once. Once you pass your pre-licensing course, you will receive a certificate that will allow you to apply for your state licensing exam. Once you get approved to take your exam--NCREC will run a background check and there are a few other requirements--you can sit for the exam anytime int he next year. Take it quickly! Are you talking about getting a broker license or just classes on real estate topics?

I am currently taking pre-licensing classes through HPW. It was less than $500 for class. I chose it because it was the fastest class I could find to finish requirements. It will take 5 weeks. I was surprised it took this long, I could finish class in two weeks in Ohio.

I went to Weichert in Durham. It was $450 at the time, a few months ago. I found the instructors to be very good at teaching the material, better than most of my college professors in fact. I did pass the test on my first try without a lot of studying. In my opinion, the outcome on the test is going to be far more dependent on the student than the instructor or the school. I had a lot of math in college, am a landlord, and have an above average knowledge of law, and I think these things helped me to pass the exam.

I do not think it is extremely difficult to pass the exam. I would say it's comparable to the level of most 101 science courses. However, if you don't have relevant skills already, you will need to spend a bit more time learning. The material can also be pretty dry and dull if things like real estate law don't interest you. If you do fail the first time you take the test, it isn't very expensive to take it again. I think it was like $65.

Take a lot of practice tests which give explanations of the answers. Some of the questions on the exam were nearly identical to practice questions I had seen.

My wife and I completed our pre-licensing class at the Go School in Cary, they also have a Go School in Raleigh & Durham. We've taken post-licensing classes at HPW and Pan School of Real Estate. The Go School is hands and feet a better experience than HPW and Pan School of RE. Go School has bright classrooms, provides snacks and beverages every class, has a bright updated classroom and energetic instructors.

If I recall, the cost was $425... which includes your book. Check it out here. I think I saw on Facebook that they are offering 10% off their class that starts on September 6th.

I got my pre-license class through Triangle Institute of Real Estate based in Raleigh. It is only $395 including the text book and the supplemental study materials are phenomenal, including a math workbook and other online forums and videos for learning.

They run a 10 week class, 4-hours per class, 2 days or evenings a week.

I would second the suggestion of Superior School of Real Estate.  I got my brokers license there 8 years ago, and do all my CE there.  Love it!  They have an awesome pass rate.  Good luck!

Definitely do your homework on schools.  The odd thing about the NCREC is that the mandate a school must have a 70% pass rate yet many of the schools the approve fall short of that.  Check the NCREC website for the stats on the schools pass rates and then do your research.  When you do take your test be prepared for ambiguous questions so read each carefully.

I agree with the response before mine... its takes about 5 weeks to take a pre-licensing course, and its about $500.  If you're still interetested in doing that i would HIGHLY recomend superior school of real estate but only if you can get MELEA LEMON's class.  I just took the class a few months ago so if you have any questions, feel free to let me know!
