satisfaction other than making money?

What are the top three benefits/results other than making a profit in REI?

So far mine are:

1. Rehab and Construction process - turning a distressed property into an actual solid property that an end consumer will thoroughly enjoy, possibly for the rest of their life.

2. Learn from mistakes/improving on already successful ideas

3.  Creating new relationships/networking

Great topic... I am not sure just money alone is enough for the long term in REI.. Some added benefits, for example, that I get form real estate as opposed to watching index funds or collecting dividend checks:

1. More interactive--engaging with people of all kinds from tenants to contractors.

2. DIY REI doubles as exercise.. Maybe I should patent the Landlord workout... Hard not to drop five to ten pounds painting a fourplex in summer...and you can go cross fit with a full body snow snow shovel in winter. About any unit turn around is a like a triathlon.

3. Own boss.. Maybe a top psychic perk is calling your own shots (and even being moderately successful at it)... Lots of job satisfaction..

For me it's helping other investors solve problems for which they had absolutely no idea what to do.

May be the same as above, but discovering or creating unique opportunities for situations that didn't present itself on traditional or under normal circumstances! Making away out of no way makes me feel like I'm winning!

Making a friend a lot more money than they were getting previously - Last year was my first year to attempt a JV Partnership on flips and it feels extremely rewarding making a silent partner money that they would have never expected/received from traditional investments.
