Florida to Texas?

Question

In Austin Texas, the largest group of people moving here are from Florida and California.  I have a good understanding of what is driving Californians here, but am not sure what the big driver is for Floridians?  Anyone in Florida that can speculate about the migratory trend?

My sister was born and raised in California.  She recently moved her entire family out to Austin Texas.  She told me the job market and area was much better for a family.  California is very saturated with people and more and more folks are moving in from all over the world.  People go to college out here and then want to stay here.  I am convinced that the real estate market out here is doing as well as it is because of these factors.

She has been in Austin for over a year now and LOVES it there.  She is trying to get me an my wife to move out there.  I am going to be a harder sell.  I hope that shines a little light on your question.  Sorry if I missed your point.

I have a theory on this or at least can explain why I, myself made the move.  I initially moved to Chicago because I wanted to experience big city life and that really doesn't exist in Florida.  After three years in Chicago (which I loved), I just couldn't deal with the cold anymore but wanted to remain in a big city and what better city than Austin for someone in their early 30s!  I have met and noticed TONS of people from Florida here so far.  I think with Cali and Florida, they're both really great places to live, so you're not going to want to downgrade and you're not going to be able to deal with the cold so the big cities in Texas make the most sense.  Would be curious to hear your theory on California!
