However, I think your commentary above is a bit harsh.  Some of these books are helpful and I don't think rote work is the only ingredient to wealth either.  Vision, strategy, and positive thinking are all helpful as well.  Many people spend all of their time motivational stuff and virtually NONE of their time working hard, hustling, and getting things done.

I have not read this book (or the author's history), but I know it is very popular.  I'm surprised to hear he died poor.  Did NH become rich and lose it, or never became rich?

OTOH, I think Woody Allen had a point, too:  "Eighty percent of success is showing up".  If the rah rah material helps you show up and you're at the table and if the luck comes around, you have a shot catching it.  If you set on the couch watching TV (or, listening to home study courses) you won't even be at the table.

My thoughts exactly. Its not all "sycophancy crap" some of it yes. But, for the most part alot of the things talked about in these books are essential for some people (including me) that loose sight of their goals when the going gets tough, and you just want to say F... everything. The psychological part of these books keep me focused.

Hill studied and wrote about the successful, but wasn't necessarily in their ranks.  He studied 500 successful people, with Andrew Carnegie at the top of the list, and wrote about what he observed in these people.

Im at about page 220 on T.&.G.R, and I can see that the book "the secret" (another great book) is a complete rip off from think and grow rich. Now the author of "the secret" wrote "the power" I wonder if its another complete rip off from T.&.G.R. (chapter 10)
