Where do you get your appliances in the Sacramento Area?

Question

I just closed on two duplexes which need rehab, including new appliances.  Do you know where to get solid appliances at a reasonable price?

I second the Lowe's suggestion. You can often get the giftcards for 10% off through one of the slickdeals sales. Combine that with the 10-20% off coupons with free shipping and it's a great deal.

Otherwise, if you don't need brand new appliances and have some extra time, San Francisco Craigslist always has cheap appliances. Being that San Francisco is full of wealthy folks, they're always upgrading their 1 year old high end appliances. They'll sell it for cheap just to get rid of it and sometimes they'll even give it away. This applies to both furniture and appliances which are often times in nearly new condition.

I always find the cheapest price through Lowes. There is always something on clearance, and then stack on the 10-20% off coupons that you can find online or through eBay. Combined with free delivery and 1-year mfr warranty makes it a good deal.

Julius seems good if you want to pick up a single scratch and dent appliance, but felt sketchy and had delivery charges.  Wound up going with Sears as they had a good sale last weekend and was able to pick up a stainless stove, fridge, and dishwasher for $1900 with delivery, installation and haul away.

Sears outlet seemed to have the better prices. Tried Julius but wasn't impressed, the options we were shown were all to expensive (even for our own home!). Ended up going with a sale at Lowes.

I'm a contractor in the Tahoe/Truckee area and we get our appliances from Ben's Appliances in Lodi.  Great prices and very helpful, plus low delivery fees.

IMO, not worth dealing with used appliances - all savings will go out the window with the first repair call. unless of course your lease agreements explicitly require tenant to maintain appliances (not typical in CA but common in mid-West)

Personally, I always buy new from HD and always get 5 year pro warranty - covers all repairs and in a few cases ended up with new units when they could not fix old ones. Amortizing a fridge or dishwasher over 5 years is dirt cheap and not worth saving a penny on after all taken into consideration

I have never found a good deal on a used appliance, wether through CL or a used outlet store. The small discount never justified the extra time to find the best deal and the risk of paying for repairs. I'm sure used deals exist out there, but hunting the used deal took way too much time. There is always clearance items at Lowes with a 1 year warranty that are the same price, and sometimes better than used price.
