House Hacking in Highlands Ranch

Robert Aydelott
Posted

Hello all,

I having been searching for the ever elusive duplex to House Hack in Denver and have made few offers but no luck so far.

I have been finding a lot of nice homes in Highlands Ranch with walk out basements and Mother In Law suites. I am wondering if I lived in the basement and rented out the top two floors if that would be a zoning violation or if the HOA would get on to me. I am thinking I could just use a portable stove top in the basement, as I know the range can often be the violation. I have left some messages to get some more info, but so far nothing back.

Does anyone have any experience or insight into this?

@Robert Aydelott good idea to stretch and broaden your opportunities.

If you are asking public officials be sure you are very careful with your questions. Remember their favorite word is "No". You might ask, Where in the code (HOA or zoning) does it prohibit renting out parts of my home to unrelated parties? Another question would be, How many unrelated people can live in a single family home?
