How can I find a broker that will sponsor me?

Hi All,

I'm looking to begin my real-estate career as a weekend and evening endeavor. I've passed both the state and national exam and all necessary pre-requisite classes, I'm ready to apply for my license.

That being said, I cannot officially apply for my license until I find a sponsoring broker (IL rules). Yet, every entry level real-estate role I've found says "must have Illinois state license". Even the entry level roles.

How did you all get your first role in Illinois before "officially" being licensed?

@Daniel James Moser you can definitely set up interviews with potential sponsoring brokers at this stage. Just tell them you are getting the license as you are honestly pretty close at this point. There will be a lot of firms interested in working with you, so I would just focus on fit. Make sure you will get what you need at the brokerage and make sure the culture works for you.

@Daniel James Moser The reason you are encountering the "must-have Illinois state license" is that you may be asked to perform tasks that require a license.  It's really up to you to decide which brokerage you plan to join. I'd suggest you interview at least 2, then you can decide if you're both a good match.   To answer your question, I got my role as an individual agent, I did not want to join a team and still don't plan on joining one.  As a new agent I'd recommend finding a brokerage that has good training and support, don't focus on the split yet.  After you gain a year or two worth of experience you can re-evaluate if your current brokerage is still a good fit.
