How to find tradesman with fair prices.

I would like some advice on how to find talent.  How do I find quality carpet installer at a fair price.  Has anyone had luck (good or bad) using Craigslist to find tradesman?

To be honest, I heavily rely on local feedback from others in the industry in my area. I have tried the Craigslist route and it always seems to bite me! Word of mouth seems to work best as others have used them previously and praised their work. Good luck and happy investing!
