Hi Community!

I am investing in Baltimore City. I have a property that I would like to change from a SFR to a Multi-family in an R-8 zone. Do you know any companies that help with this process or who can expedite the process?

Thank you,

Stephanie

    Hi Stephanie,

I would highly suggest starting with a call to the Planning Department and let them outline what is feasible for the specific property and what steps you'd need to take to get it where you want to go. While multi-family is permitted in R-8 by right, converting an existing structure may have some nuances they ought to be able to explain. It is possible you may need the support of the Councilmember for the district the property is located in. Planning should be able to get you started and you may not need to hire anyone at all, or a local land use attorney if it is truly necessary. Picking up the phone and discussing with them is best when you have a specific property to discuss, otherwise their website has good general information.

    What neighborhood is this in?
