Refinishing Hardwood Floor Hacks

Hey everyone, has anyone found a good way to fix hardwood floors that are sort of in between good and bad. Obviously we can refinish them, but that is fairly expensive. We tried to just buff the poly off floors that were so/so, restain them and poly again, but it just won't stay so we abandoned that idea quickly. But it leaves those so/so hardwoods in limbo in my mind. Do we just leave them and accept the lower quality floors, or suck it up and pay to refinish them.

Or is there a good third option? Does anyone know? Thanks in advance.

Gleaming refinished hardwoods are a huge selling feature in my experience. If they are "in between," my suggestion is to refinish them and get the wow factor.
