Granite countertops/ cheap house

So my question is should I put a granite countertop in the kitchen of a cheap house. The house is a large mill style home built in 1948. The counter top is really small in the kitchen ( 8x2.5") so I was going to put in granite.  Is this a good idea or is to much for the house. In other words will it increase the value of the house or am wasting my money because most people want granite countertop arnt looking for mill houses?

In my market, granite is practically the default option. Can't speak for the Kannapolis market. Since you're wavering and it's so small, why not put in the cheapest granite possible? It's still granite but at a lower expense. Ask the supplier whether they have any remnant pieces they'll sell you at a discount.
