cleaning grout

I have 18" light porcelain floor tile with a light colored grout. In high traffic areas (kitchen in particular) the grout is very dirty--black.
How can I clean it? It's been in about 5 years.
Will a scrub brush and detergent do it? Will using a little hand held steamer help, or be more bother than it's worth?
