Hello,

I have recently completed my civil engineering from one of premier colleges in India.I am currently working in company specializing in commercial and residential real estate in India. I find investing really exciting. In college I used to read about investing in stocks and and the other derivatives. Now I want to build my career in real estate investing and seeking advice on how and from where to start. Financially I don't have any money to invest and just got a job.So if anyone can give me advice on how to start investing and teach me basics by taking into account the state of real estate in INDIA and ASIA PACIFIC.

Thanks a lot for your precious time and advice. It would be of great help.

Real Estate in India is going through rough phase these days and thus inventory has gone up to several million square ft. Don't know how long it would take for the sector to get a boost but India being growing @ 7.5% and with more and more people moving to cities,real estate can provide handsome returns.

That's why in the mean time I want to learn literature and strategies of real estate investing.

Hope BiggerPockets would help me a lot.

Congratulations on your degree. Education is one of the best investments you can make for yourself.

It sounds like you're doing a good job so far, you have obtained employment from a real estate company. My advice is to pick someone in that company who is intelligent in real estate and take them to lunch. Always keep your ears open, listen and ask questions. Learn as much as you possibly can so one day you can create your own company (if that is what you wish to do).

Very often people will recommend buying a duplex + (2-4 unit in America for financing reasons, very low down payment) If this will work in your market then I would recommend it as well. The objective is to live for free/make money while living there. If/when you move out you can rent that unit out and cash flow.

The best advice to start out is listening to the podcasts. There is an indispensable amount of education given for free. You just have to apply what works in your market.
