landscaping project (paver)

I did research on Youtube about how to install backyard paver. But recently I heard from some contractor saying that the instruction from youtube may miss some preparation step to build concrete foundation for the paver.

Anyway, If anyone had done that or had any good ideas. Please let me know how to DIY with the paver project. I'd hire some people to get some help but it is a heavy job.
