Security concerns for house flips?

I've heard that rehab sites can be the target for burglaries. What steps should I take to make sure my stuff doesn't get stolen? What are the most common things that are stolen? Is this any different than securing a house against theft?

Great info on here!  I want to throw out another idea - Rehab quickly.  Sometimes funding is slow or work stops for some reason.  It is always a good idea to keep work moving and complete the project ASAP.  This cuts down risk in many areas and many different ways. Much of this also has to do with planning and sticking to the plan.

I just saw one where the funding wasn't all together.  Work stopped and now they can't keep a door on the property.  Slow pay to a contractor can force them to go take other jobs, which in turn delays a project even more. It also creates a situation where there is nothing going on with the project and you can have squatters, drug dealing, all kinds of crazy things going on.

What kind of plastic do you mean? I want to Google it. And wouldn't blinds serve the same purpose?

Rule number 1, Cover all windows with plastic. This helps to ensure no passerby's will see inside.

Rule number 2, Don't leave any tools onsite overnight.

Rule number 3, Not everyone needs a key to the house.

Rule number 4, Bring materials as needed, don't stock up the job site with materials. They can easily disappear or be damaged before being installed.
