Advice on best hardwired smoke/carbon detectors for apartments.

I got a call last night from the fire Department, they were called by my tenant because his smoke/carbon monoxide detector was going off. Turns out the dial in the on gas stove is junk. Scary thought..

Makes me think , what if he lit a match?!

I want to replace any older model smoke/carbons with new ones. Every apartment in this 12 unit (2 beds) building has at least one hardwired, and of course the official fire alarm system which only detects extreem heat increases.

Any suggestion on the best value of smoke/carbon combos? And do I need to get ones that plug into the wire? The styles I see now are 10 year life anyways.

1st day on BP, I appreciate any insite.

Thanks ,

Mike
