How to properly remove floor register
I am eliminating a floor register. What is the proper way to close this duct branch? Do I simply cap off the round duct work at the end or do I need to take off the complete branch (only register on this branch) and seal the opening at the main duct?
This is in a crawl space with easy access.
Thanks for any advice.

If it's a branch line off a bigger line, the whole branch should be removed. The reason being is that air flow is being diverted from other rooms where it could be put to use. If the HVAC installer was worth his salt, he installed dampers on the branch lines to increase/decrease air flow depending on how the system worked. If there is a damper, all you need to do is close it, rather than remove the line.
