Houston Texas Area Soil Samples

Question for all of you savvy REI experts out there.

I am working on building a garage apartment and have run into a need for a Soil Sample test to be conducted on my property in order for my structural engineer to put his seal on my drawings.

I have called around a couple of places I've found with a quick google search and have gotten a price of around $1100 for them to come out and do a 15ft and 20ft test.

Does anyone have any experience with Soil Samples?  Is $1100 a reasonable amount?  Any questions I need to ask?

Thank you in advance,

One lost puppy,

Victor
