Dirty Rotten Thieves

So it seems that once every few months someone gets into one of my houses and steals something. Usually copper but I just had $400 in plumbung supplies taken. Any ideas on cost effective ways to try to prevent this? I am considering just getting the phone lines turned on to get alarm systems in place. Seems like it will be like $40 per month per property. Any other ideas?

I've had good luck with buying a cheap tv at a pawn shop) and covering the windows in one room with a sheet and keeping the tv on.

Just realized that you would have to figure something out now that there are no more broadcast tv signals. Maybe leave the bedroom light on and play a radio loud enough to be heard just outside.

Install motion lights.

Another idea is to see if the neighbors will park in the driveway.

Put up a sign that says that if they are thinking of breaking in, think again because you will blow their head off and you are waiting inside. They might think twice about whether to find out.
