Hardware on Kitchen cabinets(?)

I've noticed that many rehabbers are not installing pulls on cabinets. Is this merely an appearance thing or is there a trend towards no hardware? I have had to install hardware on some rentals where it hadn't been installed. I think that there would be alot of wear on the corners where the cabinet doors are grabbed to open. Thoughts?

It's just rehabbers being cheap and/or lazy...there's no good reason not to put new hardware on cabinets (IMO, of course)...
