Spray-on Granite?

Question

I just heard about a product being used by a large apartment complex company.  It's a "spray-on granite" or granite-look product.  It costs $200-300 per unit.  Anyone using this stuff or heard experiences from others?  They spray it right over the formica.

The granite countertops require much maintenance so the spray should be such that it does not leave any kind of stain on it though the granite being water resistant. When granite is light in color you need to take care that the color do not get affected.

I've been using this stuff in a fourplex.  I've owned it for about 4 years and only had to redo one unit so far.  Price is about a couple hundred buck as others say.  Pretty good durability for the cost in my opinion.

Sorry I missed your question last June; on my birthday btw. I thought this guys spray granite looked more like splatter paint on his demo chips. I chose not to do that. But I did let him redo a bathtub and surround for about $300.

Jeremy Joseph - this product that is being discussed in this topic is NOT real granite, but a spray-on or brush-on surface treatment that covers some other material.  Sounds like you were under the impression that real granite is being discussed in this instance.

My daughter manages a large apt. complex of 500+ units. I know they are using it with good results. I think the cost is a couple hundred dollars per unit like Cheryl said. I know that they have a company come in and do the work.

I saw this stuff, out of a spray can (!) on the galley top of a yacht and at first glance looked like the real thing, the give away was that the trim wasn't thick enough to have granite. Looked good, better than the fiberglass counter top. :)

I use a guy locally that has bought into a franchise deal with Gripit. They resurface tubs, formica, tile ETC. Cheaper than replacing and don't look too bad. Just make sure your price point will support a surface that looks "less than new". And make sure your tile is in good shape before hand.

I saw it used on one of those TV Flip shows (the football player one, forget his name)... looked pretty solid on TV :)
