Two-Handle Shower Trim Kit?

Question

Hi folks.

Would appreciate any thoughts or input about a shower in a duplex I have under contract. I would really like to update the shower hardware. The shower has a hot and cold handle above the faucet. Does anyone manufacture a trim kit for these? I have searched online and in the bog box stores and haven't found a solution yet.

Obviously would love to not have to change to a single valve.

Once you close, you'll need to pull at least one stem (I'd pull both) and bring it all into home depot or a competitor and match up a kit. They sell a kit with the new stems (all the moving parts) and handles, bezels, etc.The only way to accomplish this successfully is to take in the removed items as there's a lot of variations but the manifolds themselves are fairly standard. (the water will have to get turned off to the unit as usually there's not a shutoff for the shower manifold).When you shut off the water to the unit, open a faucet in the lowest point of the plumbing system in case the house shutoff leaks a bit (common). That way water won't be going behind your shower wall.

I've seen lots of two handle trim kits on Amazon, if you can find the manufacturer's name under all that crud, lol. Danco makes a lot of universal stuff that might work for you, also.

If they work, why change it? Just clean them up and recaulk, and clean the fiberglass shower unit or epoxy it.

We bought a 6-unit & every one of those old PITA fixtures had to be replaced. Some had been previously 'fixed' but it was impossible to keep them functional. The plastic handles would strip from the shutoff cylinders as the corrosion was excessive & the water dripped constantly, those high water bills would eventually pay for a new bathroom. It was cheaper to replace then to do constant repairs, plus if the cylinders were badly corroded good luck getting them out. Then after tearing them out I found the leaks behind the walls were worse than expected.
