Where do you guys find non-skilled labor?

Question

As the title suggests, where do you guys find your non-skilled labor? If I buy a bunch of vinyl flooring and just want to pay someone to install it, where do I find the people to do it?

Im also thinking of things like paint, fencing, etc. I keep finding larger contractors, but I feel like if I have all the materials, it should be easier to find people that can just lay flooring, paint, etc.

I find it useful to have a couple people that will remove old flooring (carpet, vinyl, etc), clean out crawl spaces, repair insulation, lay down vapor barrier, haul off junk, remove fencing, paint decks, low skill landscaping, etc.

The best method I've found is posting free stuff (used appliances, old fencing, and other stuff) on CL, then identifying the good character workers to do other work for $15 hour.

@Lucas Hammer.  Network with people you know and trust. Ask people for referrals on social media like Nextdoor. Use Thumbtack or HomeAdvisor.

These tasks as not “unskilled labor” as they require skilled labor to perform them if you expect quality and efficiency. If you mean labor you can hire without licensing, workers company, etc, then you can find them standing in front of any large box store, paint store, etc. but keep in mind that many of these tasks you mention require licensed contractors in many states (not all) and when it is required, skipping that is a risk you take. Anybody gets hurt, any city inspector comes by, or anything else and you can get fined, sued, etc. So you need to weigh the risks vs the rewards on these tasks.

I used Angie’s list you can get quotes they are licensed but you can find a quote possibly that works for you. Not sure if they have it out by you but I have gotten good deals from it

I recommend stopping at a different place for coffee everyday of the week. Do some volunteer work at the local vets club/lions/moose club etc. Attend fundraisers, raffles, bowling, dart, softball leagues. Even just as a spectator and get to chatting. More people will come out of the woodwork than you can handle. Many are really good at what they do and just want to snag some side money while maintaining their day job.

If it is your first or second flip/rehab, I say this is fine so you can learn the ins and outs of a job site and know how much things should cost and how long they should take. But if you truly want to run a business, doing these tasks are below an investors pay grade and as such, should be sub’d out to those at that pay scale. The business owner should focus on higher paying per hour tasks like raising capital, finding deals, building systems, building the team, networking, etc.
