Chalky Vinyl Siding - How Do I Fix The Chalking?

I'm trying to figure out what the best plan of action is for chalky vinyl siding. As I run my finger across it, a white film transfers off. What's the best solution? Some type of special cleaner and a power washer? Paint it? New siding? I've also seen this on aluminum siding too. Does the same answer hold true for it? Thanks.

well, you can try a few things...

1. rent a GOOD powerwasher from HD and try their chemicals (cleaning isle)
2. 50% water, 50% pool cleaner
3. buy from http://www.pressuretek.com/chemicals.html . i have used them before, but not their chemicals.
4. look at the pressure cleaning forums for someone in your area or just on google.

most important thing is that you need to use a wide tip - 40 degrees tip, so no damage occurs.

the most important thing is that the GALLONS per MINUTE is the most important aspect of a PW, not its PSI.

there are other companies that offer chemicals, but the one i used awhile ago does not exist anymore..

Careful with a powerwasher on vinyl. If you have it full blast, it will take off the top layer of finish.

powerwasher. that residue is hard to clean. i know because i used to have a small powerwashing business. there are chemicals that are harmless to plants/people, but super effective on that stuff.
