Kansas City, MO Portfolio Lenders

I'm looking to get into the Kansas City, MO single family homes market and have run into some issues getting pre-approved. I switched from a W-2 job to a contractor position and even though I make more money, lenders are asking for 1-2 years in my new position. I have good credit and a good amount of savings. Does anyone have an idea of what kind of loans to be looking for to get around these rules?
