Contract for Deed and payments in arrears

Here is another one about CFDs. Here is the scenario, the borrower misses a few payments, but resumes paying on time. Since, CFD do not have a note, my understanding is that a loan mod would not apply. The only remedy for the borrower is to catch up with the missed payments.. is there any other recourse here?
