Can Code Enforcement Liens be Negotiated Down?

Purchasing a property with over $15k in code enforcement liens. Anyone buying ever negotiate these down?

Yes they can.. there should be a procedure to submit your claim for code enforcement abatement . Here in Vegas we have to submit a notarized form and outline the amount of reduction in fines.. They hear cases every third Wednesday of the month.. I have done 2 successful abatement and reduced penalties over fifty thousand dollars. They give you 30 days to pay and escrow or title can handle the payment .. Good luck

Account Closed  It's good to know that someone has actually done this. Hopefully I can file a claim for code abatement here in New Orleans! Today I had the Sellers sign a third party authorization... just in case! Thanks for sharing.

@Stephanie Woodside I have never personally done it but I think it would absolutely be worth a phone call to code enforcement to find out.

Be forthright on what your budget is on the property, how soon you could pay it, and what your plan would be going forward. Be as specific as possible. Those types of things are a drain on the City's resources and I would think they'd be open to it if it were a new owner who was going to take care of the property.
