Radon Inspection - worth it?

Question

Is it worth getting a Radon inspection for rental properties in Cleveland?  I don't know much about the implications, as its not common where i am from.  Any opinions?

Certain areas around Greater Cleveland have high Radon levels. While I am not an expert, I have done some research on the subject. My opinion is that Radon (above 4.0) is significant risk if people in the household smoke.

I know of no requirement to test for Radon in Ohio. However, if you test and find a high level; then it seems to me that mitigation would be appropriate.

Your question has prompted me to ask around a bit to learn which communities have higher incidence of Radon.  If I get around to this, I will put some notes together.

Perhaps one of our local inspection companies will chime in here with an opinion as to which areas have a history of high levels

Depends on the area. Some areas are known to have high Radon others are not. Also depends how much time you plan to spend in the basement as that is where you're highest level of exposure will be.

@Bob Collett thanks for the response!  In case anyone is wondering, the house is in Euclid that I was inquiring about, but would love to see overall thoughts as well.
