Albany NY roof replacement

Hi guys, I am trying to have a roof replaced on a 2-family property n Albany. I had trouble finding a vendor due to a harsh winter last year. so I approached a vendor that had given me an estimate back in April 2021 (when I purchased the property). Not only is the price a lot more than the original estimate but the vendor is requesting a 50% deposit. Has anyone had a request for such a large deposit recently?

That amount of a deposit will just about cover materials and dump fees.
