Audio and Video Editing?

Hey everyone,

Some friends and I are looking into starting a YouTube channel and maybe a small podcast for the investing company we are starting and I am going to be the editing guy once everything is recorded/filmed. Any advice for some quality software at a reasonable price, or possibly even free? I have heard that there are some items for the iPhone that work pretty well but don’t know what those are. We are not doing anything extreme, but being able to merge multiple videos into one or removing some background noise, etc. will be the biggest things. Thanks in advance for all the help!

I think audio can be the tougher part.  Its not difficult to splice together video clips.  Getting good audio can be more difficult.  Good mics that let you capture good audio up front will pay dividends.  Don't rely on the mic built into your camcorder or DSLR.  Spend some money on a good wireless lavilere mic.

@Stephen Turner they make a version of iMovie for the iPhone (free, btw) but the interface is wayyyyy to small for my fat fingers, although the same app on iPad is much easier to use. You can tweak the audio to some extent within the app.

iMovie that is included with Mac OS works pretty well.  Final Cut Pro is now only $299 and will do everything you would possible want to do, if iMovie isn't up to your needs.  Regardless of what tool you end up using, this is a more complex task than you might expect.  Plan to spend some serious learning time on the first few attempts.
