How to start your first RE blog

Question

I am new to blogging and wanting to start a real estate blog!  Can anyone give me any tips on where to start..? My focus for the blog right now is very general as I am really only interested in sharing real estate news, stories, and strategies.  Someone help please!!  :roll:

Not to be biased (did you think I'd be anything else on this one?), but one of the reasons we created a real estate blog network was to give those people who want to blog, a built in audience.  While I think wordpress is certainly superior in terms of many features, you're essentially starting from scratch, whereas new bloggers on BiggerPockets have the opportunity for great exposure from the jump -- not only exposure from people, but just as important -- exposure from the search engines.

Diana - What specifically are you looking for in terms of advice on getting started, though?  What is it that you'd like to know?

Thanks Rachel and Chris for the recent replies to a slightly dated thread.  I did get going pretty good on my RE blog but have recently loss some momentum so these supportive comments came just at the right time!

Oh, lol Diana! (about sifting through all the content) In matters of blogging, I feel writing from the heart tends to work the best. Welcome to the world of blogging, BP is a good avenue to start off with since the infrastructure and network is already in place if you're just getting started. Plus, if you have any issues posting content and/or material up - the support is already here. Hope that helps! :D

Diana, creating content for the blog is no easy task - an even harder task is doing so for the next few years.  If you're having trouble creating posts from scratch consider taking the curators position, finding and identifying great posts on a given investment concept/approach/etc.

Another idea is to frequent the Q&A websites looking for investment related questions, see if any of those spur some ideas.

Josh, Of course I am interested in having a blog through BiggerPockets.  The built in network is something that would definitely take time to get on a new blog, I still am interested in creating a seperate blog as well.  On the advice side of things how do I choose writing content? As a new investor I don't have a particular investment approach.  How does a blogger sift through all the material out there and create an article, is there any method to the madness?
