Who's still using Twitter with success?

Question

I've felt like Twitter is really just a one-way conversation for sometime now. You simply throw out a link and thats it.

I'm just becoming more and more of a FB fan as time goes on. Is anyone else still using Twitter successfully?

Well, what do you consider success?   I sell investment real estate, but I can not ever recall posting on Twitter and finding a buyer.  Twitter success I think comes from things not so direct.  Contacts, relationships, getting your name/brand out there, building a following.  Those things could be considered success.

Connect to those people you want to engage with and then engage them.  Sure you're going to see them posting articles, but I don't see that as any different from Facebook.

Like on any social network, the key is connecting to like-minded people or those people that mean something to you. If you're just connecting to tens of thousands of people, then you're definitely going to just deal with garbage on the network.

I think using twitter for business is a good use. If you're doing something in your business and people are interested in following the progress of it, it's a great tool.

Twitter as a social network is a waste of time.

I think it depends on your target audience as well.

I do commercial real estate and I contact people in various ways. I have no urge to tell people and tweet I am going to the bathroom or eating dinner with somebody etc.

I think some times should be private and you need to disconnect.All of these social sites can become compulsive and unhealthy if over engaged.

I use to post to 40 social networking sites at once but some are just people trying to sell porn or contact you with crap.

I am interested in QUALITY of contacts and not just VOLUME of contacts.

I have a twitter account but I don't use it at all.Might eventually just employ a local person to keep up with all of this stuff. I enjoy being on the phone and meeting up fro deals.This social network stuff and keeping databases can be a full time job in itself.

twittwer is my bff... but that wasn't always the case. when my tweets were just "looking for a new tax lien for the month of May." nothing happened. the key to twitter is to ask questions. just like Joshua said... find like-minded people. use search.twitter.com and type in something like "reo investing" and people who are talking about it right then will pop up. engage with them in conversation. also, prune your followers. if a pron star is following you, chances are it is a spam account. delete them so real twitter users will be encouraged to follow you.

I use Twitter almost every day to connect with people.  I know that some people keep their Twitter clients (Tweetdeck, etc.) open all day - so it is a fast, effective way to get in touch with certain people.

I've got my Tweetdeck open at all times while I'm on my laptop, so it is an efficient way to reach me as well.

It depends on how you use it.  I tweeted something negative about the service I got when I was booking a hotel room.  I was contacted immediately, upgraded and comped dinner.  I've had good success with it.
