New York City Relocation

I have a friend relocating from San Francisco to New York City. She is looking for a one bedroom apartment and is interested in Brooklyn Heights, Prospect Heights, Cobble Hill, Fort Greene, Boerum Hill, Park Slope or Clinton Hill. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on searching for a rental in one of these areas and the methodology she should be using to find a place. She visited NYC for a few days last week but no luck and now her search is online since she is back in the City by the Bay. All comments appreciated!
