Rental property novice looking for advice

I am 26 years old and I bought a home when I was in the military. It is currently rented out in Texas and I have no issues with this home and have some decent cash flow from this home. I am looking to begin building long term investments again with real estate by purchasing a home here in Alabama and living in it while fixing it up then renting it out. I am looking for tips and suggestions how to effectively start this process and what key elements should I look for during this process. My current rent in my apartment is 975 a month and I would rather be building a future for myself with this money rather than lining the pockets of others. Thanks in advance for your help and advice

Welcome Jacob. A good place to start is to get around some folks that have done this for awhile in the Birmingham area. Alabama Investors ***. ( google it up) is having their monthly meeting this Monday at the Homewood Senior center at 5:30 to 6 pm. Go there and ask for Jack Eyer. Good luck. JP
