Help Running Numbers to Find Deals

Hello, I am looking to start real estate investing and on everyone's podcast/ all the books everyone talks about running numbers. Is there anyone who could give me an example of what these numbers should look like when looking for an apartment and/or single family? And what are the numbers you typically look for that makes it a great return? This would help me tremendously with trying to start!
