Accessory Dwellings in Torrance, CA
Long story short, I finally got a house under contract after two years of following bigger pockets and being interested in real estate so I am excited about my progress!
My purchase it’s going to be a single family home (R1) in Torrance, CA, but it currently has an approved and permitted 800 sqft structure in the rear that is currently a hobby room. Torrance currently has zoning code that covers accessory dwelling units (ADUs) that I would like to take advantage of to permit the rec room as a dwelling so that I can live in it and rent out the main house. Is there anything I need to look for or at other than the zoning code to make sure I can permit the structure as an ADU? I don’t think I can get city inspectors in before the end of my physical inspection period. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

@Matthew Forrest From what I understand it depends on where in Torrance. They are trying to keep West and South Torrance low density. I heard South of PCH and west of Palos Verdes Blvd are not permitted for ADU. If I'm wrong I'd like to be educated if someone else has done the research.
