Investment areas in Houston??

Question

Who are some local investors in Houston that could give me some good insight on areas to look for deals throughout the city? Currently I live in Brookshire and I know the west side of the city is developing quite a bit. I would love an opportunity to pick some people’s brains who are local!

@Matthew Johnson I'd attend local REIA meetings and connect with agents to learn more about specific areas and opportunities. Real estate is a relationship game - start building those relationships now.

Hey Matt,

Just like there are deals in every city across the US - there are deals in every part of the city. Investors are doing deals all over Greater Houston. You may want to avoid some areas depending on your goals (lower C class and D class neighborhoods) but in general you can find a deal anywhere, as long as you know what you're trying to accomplish.

So, in short - there is no one part of town that's going to be "the best to invest". Write down your goals and work backwards. Then choose the real estate you need to fit those goals. Also, leverage any of your skills to create a competitive advantage. Examples: high paying job = cheap financing for rentals, contractor skills = cheap construction costs, etc.

@Cameron Tope thanks for that insight! I’m in the process of beginning and there is a million things to learn. I’m hoping to really start a networking base here in Houston and someone who can be a mentor. I have experience in marketing, I have owned a marketing firm, I can do some handy work (lighting, paint, yard work, etc), I have been in sales for the last 8 years. I’m just looking for someone to give me a shot and be a mentor, I’m not looking for a paycheck. Do you know of anyone who I could connect with that could use some of my skills?
