Investor Agent Relationship

Is the relationship between an investor and agent meant to grow and develop over time or has the pace of this market made those relationships more transactional and based less of the relationship?

I am wanting to develop my understanding of the investors mindset to help guide my discussions.

 Great question!

Gary Keller lightly touches on this topic in his book Shift where he discusses the point in the market cycle where we have more active licensed agents than # of transactions in a given market. With more agents competing over less deals in a low-inventory market, you'll certainly see folks focusing more on transactions than relationships.

That said, I don't think this applies across the board as more experienced agents understand that relationships win no matter the market climate. I've had repeat clients, almost always investors, go with other agents simply because those other agents found them the deal. It doesn't kill the relationship for me because I understand the nature of the business and I know there will be other opportunities to add value in the future.
