AMD expanding its footprint in Southeast Austin
Advanced Micro Devices Inc. is growing in Austin again.
The chipmaker is halfway through adding 145,000 square feet to its footprint at Zydeco Development Corp.'s sprawling MetCenter campus in Southeast Austin. That comes as competitors Nvidia Corp. and Intel Corp. are expanding and shrinking their local presences, respectively.
AMD (Nasdaq: AMD) — which is based in Silicon Valley but retains significant operations in Austin, including serving as the home of CEO Lisa Su — is in the midst of tenant improvements of 73,000 square feet of flexible industrial, office and creative space at the 8000 Metropolis Drive site, according to public filings and internet postings. The company recently wrapped up the finish-out of an adjacent building of roughly the same size.
