Atlanta Blight Tax 🙄

I read that Atlanta passed a blight tax in 2024 and it still has not been implemented. According to the Atlanta City Auditor’s February 2026 report, the city has not set up a program to carry it out and no properties have been charged under it.

That tells you where the real issue is. It is not passing the policy. It is putting it into action.

Something like a blight tax only works if there is a consistent way to identify which properties actually qualify across the city. That is where things seem to be breaking down.

I have been spending time on my own data solution for this. It made me realize how different it is to talk about a problem versus actually structuring something that can be applied at scale.

Do you have a blight tax or something similar in your city?  Is it actually being enforced, or is it running into the same issue?
