It is a great time to buy if you have $10MM - $1B+ to invest. The Bulk REO's are really going strong. This is what one needs to be aware of tho:

A week or two ago a California REIT got in touch with me and wanted to unload several hundred million worth of its holdings and when I see something like that brought to my attention. unsolicited, I have to wonder.

I held REIT's (commercial) for over 5 years and never made less than 20 percent on them. Dumped them last year, when Harry Dent said they had seen there glory days for now. He was right.  The one's I held did in fact fall off this year.  BTW, I bought them through Vanguard at my wife's work, where the transaction costs were much less than normal.

Harry Dent (you can Google him) has been in best, IMO, of anticipating the market in the long-term. He is NOT a GURU.  I like his Grow Rich Slow approach. I am sure you can find information on buying into REIT's. He can get highly technical, but trying to understand it him is well worth the education.
