Mentor?

Question

I've been in real estate and have done okay so far.  I have a lot of knowledge and have made deals - but not "dynamic" deals.  I've read a lot about mentoring, and as I understand from BP I need to find someone successful in this field or go to someone you know.  The problem I have is that I've been doing this on my own and although I've gone to some real estate investment club meetings, I haven't met anyone that could help.  I don't know anyone personally doing what I do except on here. So I'm asking, does anyone have suggestions on the best way to go about this without spending thousands of dollars?  The best way to network to find someone?

@Laura Scherr Russel is right - top performers are too busy to mentor. Why would they take time when they are already struggle to make time for their family?

But turn that on it's head, it's also an opportunity - just offer to help out. Just ask if there is anything you can do, run errands, do research, whatever they need and you can do.

Finding a mentor can be hard. To be honest, a lot of the people who are worth learning from are too busy to actually mentor someone. However a lot of those people, while they may not have the time to mentor, will offer their advice and guidance.  Try going to some local REIA's and meetups, and just meeting people.  While they may not be able to mentor, Im sure they will take a call or email from you from time to time to offer their support.
