Bandit Sign Etiquette

Obviously there is some controversy with the use of bandit signs, especially if they're illegal in your city, but I've heard a lot of investors who have put out hundreds of signs a month having great success with it. What are the possible repercussions associated with bandit signs in a market where they are illegal (accruing the signs taken down by the city just as an expected expense) and can they track your google voice number? Also theres the fact that this method could be considered littering in your market and is generally a sleazy thing to do... I think this could be a successful method but is it worth it?

I have this recurring fantasy of printing up a big stack of signs that read "And Give THE BEST H**D!" and stashing them in the back of my car. Every time I'll see a "We Buy Houses" sign on a telephone pole I'll jump out and staple one of mine underneath it. I'm sure I'm not the only twisted and bitter middle-aged man out there. Somebody's gonna do it some day.
