What are peoples thoughts on the best cities or towns in Canada for value?

Nearly all of Alberta and Saskatchewan are at perfect points in the cycle to be buying... the asterisk here is the fomo bidding wars that have been happening since December. Economic fundamentals wise, they’re excellent.. society stupidity wise,... wait till June 1 and see how much the new qualifying rules tame the dragon. Up until now my point of view was that it was a good summer to take some $ off the table thanks to the bidding wars driven by anxious people scared of “missing their chance”.

the challenge right now is the high cost of commodities and low availability of skilled labour which is making any build to rent deal trickier, plus land is way up in calgary.  still better than most other places, with potential for appreciation as we are basically at 2014 prices right now.

I took some $ off the table recently with a condo, targeting commercial space going forward. I’ve got enough residential to keep me occupied and earning money. Time fiddle with a new asset class for fun (& hopefully profit).

Account Closed Yeah that's how I see it too. I've been buying this year in Calgary I just put one under contract this week, the only thing I am less certain to be honest is the medium-long term economy of the region, but all the properties I get have stupid amount of net cashflow so I really don't bank on appreciation.

Different provinces have different rules when buying.  Some have transfer taxes, others have taxes in some areas if you do short term rentals or the place is vacant for a while.  I have places in BC and AB and with the current market, I'd buy in AB as prices are still reasonable.

Calgary and Alberta in general seems to have less of a crazy hot market right now, still pretty easy to find cash flowing properties. I am less certain about future appreciation as the local economy is still struggling but to me it seems like there is a lot more headroom for the market to go up than a lot of other Canadian cities.
