[Question] Real Estate Market

Hi everyone,

I'm studying real estate as of now but have a questions on the topic. When studying real estate what are some of the outside factors to consider? For example, should I be studying how healthy the economy is? If so, where? What metrics/data should I be looking for?

Thank you to all the contributors of this post!

@David Elliott, a few thoughts:

1. I think your question is too broad. For someone to give really useful feedback, I think we need to know what your plans/goals are.

2. To answer your question about "health of the economy" with regard to real estate:

For an investor, while they may look at broad economic indicators for things such as the outlook on interest rates the majority of what an investor would care about is LOCAL economy. The old adage is "ALL real estate is LOCAL" meaning the national economy might be doing poorly at the same time my local economy is going strong.

3. Back to #1, depending on your goals in real estate and also personal interests/aptitudes there is a WIDE variety of clearly related fields of study: tax/finance, project management, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, construction, and interior design just to a name a few.
