Renovations while house hacking
Am I allowed to convert a garage to an ADU or add bedrooms to the house while doing a house hack and having tenants?

@Lauren N. is the garage attached or detached from the property? Adding bedrooms complicates the matter because sawdust will be everywhere. As noted above, your roommates/tenants will be rightfully upset with the construction chaos. You need to be very upfront with them and confirm that everyone is on board. Preferably, all of this should be done before tenants move in.
